Tympanometry Treatment

Tympanometry Treatment

What is Tympanometry?

Tympanometry analyzes the movement of the thin layer of tissue that lies between the middle and the outer ear, known by the name of the tympanic membrane. The test's results will reveal if a condition that causes the loss of hearing is, in fact, present, for example, tear, infection, fluid, or Eustachian tube issues.

Tympanometry Treatment

Tympanometry is a test used to assess the health of the middle ear and the movement of the eardrum (tympanic membrane) and the conduction bones by causing changes in air pressure within the ear canal. Tympanometry is an objective assessment of the middle ear's function. The test is not intended to be a listening test. It is a measurement of the energy transfer via the middle ear. It is not used to measure hearing sensitivity. Tympanometry is a test used to determine the health in the middle ear and movement in the condition of the eardrum (tympanic membrane) and the conduction bones by causing variations in the air pressure inside the ear canal.

Tympanometry is an objective assessment of the middle ear's function. The test is not audiometric; instead, it's a test of energy transmission to the middle ear. This test is not used to evaluate how sensitive to hearing is. Its results must be evaluated as a part of pure audiometry. The test results for sound and pressure flow, which is conducted using an external probe like instrument placed in the middle ear, are recorded on a tympanogram. Tympanometry is a valuable component of audiometric evaluation.

It can be useful in determining the presence of conditions like middle ear infections (otitis media) or fluid accumulation performance, or blockages within the Eustachian tube. It is possible to distinguish between the conductive and sensorineural loss to assess hearing loss.

TYMPANOMETRIC TESTING

PROCEDURE

Tympanometry is a method for audiologists to detect and monitor issues with the middle ear. This middle ear is located behind the tympanic membrane (eardrum). The test can diagnose conditions that can cause hearing loss, particularly for children. The test measures the motion of your eardrum as it responds to pressure changes.

The procedure is done using an elastic rubber tip put in your ear canal. The probe can cause the pressure of the air inside your ear canal to fluctuate when you hear low-pitched sounds. When the pressure changes, the measurements of your eardrum's motion are taken and recorded. This test is completely painless and doesn't cause any discomfort.

RESULTS

Results of tympanometry will be documented on a graph, which is called the tympanogram. It will give your audiologist the following details:

  1. The question is whether or not fluids are found in the middle ear

  2. Diagnostics of Otitis Media (middle ear infection)

  3. The diagnosis of a perforation in the eardrum (tear)

  4. Problems in the Eustachian tube (the tube that connects the upper portion of the nose to the middle part of your ear)."
