Dr. S.K. Gupta is a renowned Senior Interventional Consultant Cardiologist with 23 Yrs of experience of cardiology and is equally very good Clinical Cardiologist & Non-Invasive Cardiologist. Dr. S.K. Gupta says heart attack (Myocardial Infarction) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Most of these deaths take place because proper first-aid or medical attention is not given. Moreover, 50% people who die of heart attacks do not have any preceding symptoms. By early diagnosis and proper treatment, most of these patients can be saved.

First of all, one should know when to suspect heart attack. It should be considered if a person starts having pain or heaviness in the chest or shoulder or arm on left side or right side or both sides or neck, lower jaw or retro sternal / epigastric region / back. It may or may not be associated with ghabrahat, sweating, weakness or shortness of breath. Very commonly heart attack may present with symptoms of acidity in the form of nausea, vomiting or pain abdomen. Some patients (esp. Diabetics) are known to have silent (painless) heart attack.
